A. N. Haksar
Chairman-Emeritus,
ITC Founder Patron Chairman, EMPI

Mr. Ajit Narain Haksar (1925-2005) was a distinguished alumnus of Doon School, Dehradun and Allahabad University frm where he graduated in Humanities. He obtained his MBA in 1948 frm Harvard Business School, USA. He joined Imperial Tobacco Company (now ITC) in 1948 and served in various capacities including Marketing Director and Deputy Chairman during his over three decades of association with the company. He became the first Indian to lead ITC as its Chairman in 1969. He was appointed as Chairman- Emeritus, ITC in 1983. Haksar's managerial success earned him numerous awards, such as Man of the Year Award, the Outstanding Industrialist Award, Businessman of the Year Award, among others. He was the only Indian professional manager who was enshrined in Business World Hall of Fame. In 2005, the All India Management Association crowned him with Lifetime Achievement Award in Management. His passion for advancing and encouraging high quality education in India saw him the Founder Patron Chairman of EMPI Business School Group, which he guided till his last day.

 


D. V. Kapur

Dr. D. V. Kapur served as Founding Chairman and Managing Director of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). Dr. Kapur has wide experience in Chemicals and Petrochemicals Industries. He has an illustrious career in Government sector with successful track record of building vibrant organization and successful project implementation. He served BHEL in various positions with distinction. He has made significant contributions in the fields of Technology Management and Industrial Development. Dr. Kapur holds a BEE, D.Sc. frm Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad.

 


Padma Bhushan N. Vittal

Padma Bhushan Shri. N. Vittal was born on 31st January 1938 in Thiruvananthapuram. He had his early education in Tiruchirapalli and Madras and graduated with B.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry frm Loyola College, Madras in 1958. After a short time as Lecturer in Jamal Mohammed College, Tiruchirapalli, he joined the I.A.S on 16th May 1960 and was allotted to the Gujarat Cadre. In his career of more than 35 years, Mr. Vittal has held a number of assignments at the State Government, Central Government as well as in a joint sector enterprise. Currently, he is the Chairman of EMPI’s Vittal Centre for Management & Governance Informatics (VC-MaGtics).


Tara Sinha

Ms. Tara Sinha has over fifty years' experience in Advertising, Public Relations, External Affairs and Corporate Communication in England, India and the USA. Considered as the Pioneer of the Indian Advertising, she was the founder Director of Clarion Advertising Services Limited (later Clarion McCann Advertising Services Ltd.). She has been associated with various communication campaigns for family planning, nutrition and other areas with Govt. of India. She has authored numerous articles and presentations on related topics in National and International forums. She played the role of an adviser on marketing and a range of other corporate areas involving relationship issues. She has also contributed her expertise in leading Newspapers and Magazines. Besides this, she was Chairperson of Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, GOI.

 


Udai Pareek

Dr. Pareek was the Founder Chairman of the HR LABS of EMPI, New Delhi and Distinguished Visiting Professor at the IIHMR Jaipur, India. He was also Chairman of the Governing Board of the Institute of Developmental Research and Statistics, Jaipur, Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee and Vice President of the Management Board of IIHMR. He had been Chairman of the Governing Boards of the Institute of Development Studies, AHRD, SAAP; the National HRD Network, and ISABS. He was Advisory Member for Asia and the Middle East of Human Resource Development International. He was also a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the Global Committee on the Future of Organization Development.

 

He had been US-AID HRD/OD Advisor to the Ministry of Health, Government of Indonesia; L&T Professor of Organisational Behaviour, IIM, Ahmedabad. He authored or edited about 100 books and more than 1000 papers.

 


P.S.Bami

Mr. P. S. Bami is an independent consultant providing advisory services on power sector reforms, utility management and power development in India. Mr. Bami is the former Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC, a power generating company in India and fourth largest in Asia. Currently, he is the President of India Energy Forum, a think tank in the energy sector including most energy companies and energy experts in power, coal, petroleum, nuclear and renewable energy field. He was also Adviser (Power), Government of Orissa, India. He has more than 28 years of experience in planning, reorganizing and developing structures as well as systems and procedures, developing financial management systems, and organizing tariff formulation and tariff agreements of power utilities. He is a Board Member of Strategic Management Group, India, a recognized independent body of experts in management and economic field. He is the Chairman of the Academic Council of EMPI.

 


T. V. Rao

Dr. T. V. Rao is currently Chairman of HR LABS & also T V Rao Learning Systems Pvt. Ltd. & Chairman, Academic Council, Academy of Human Resources Development, Ahmedabad. He was Professor at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad for over 20 years beginning frm 1973. He has also worked as L&T Professor of HRD at XLRI, Jamshedpur during 1983-85. Dr. Rao is the Founder President of the National HRD Network and was President of the Indian Society for Applied Behavioral Science (ISABS).

 

Dr. Rao has participated in the past in HRD, OD and Self renewal work with Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; National Institute of Design, Mount Carmel group of colleges, St. Joseph's group of Institutions, XLRI, Jamshedpur; XIM Bhubaneswar etc. At IIMA he was a member of the Committee for Future Directions coordinated by Dr. C. Rangarajan in late seventies.

 


Gurnam Saran

Honorary President Gurnam Saran, Chartered Engineer and Fellow of Indian Institute of Engineers (Management), brings with him a unique combination of 35 years of Corporate Indian and Global Management & Consulting experience followed by the last 15 years spent in developing Institutions of the future involved in Education, Research, CSR, Technology & Management Extension Services. Earlier, he received his Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1957. While wanting to pursue a career in Industrial Engineering and getting admitted to the M.Tech Programme at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 1958, but at the same time having been selected, under the Colombo Plan he preferred to do his PG study in Industrial Management in UK.

Returning back to India in 1960 and working with British Consultants – Urwick Orr & Partners, London, advisors to Hindustan Steel Ltd. he pioneered setting up the first of its type Management Sciences & Productivity Management Group serving the then emerging Steel Industry in India. After spending 8 years in the Steel Industry he worked for 27 years in Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) – one of India’s largest Engineering Company involved in designing. Manufacturing and setting up complete Power Stations (Thermal, Hydro & Nuclear) in India and abroad through it 22 Divisions engaging 75, 000 employees across India and overseas.

His services were loaned to the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation, London, to serve them as a Business Analyst and Sr. Management Consultant to the Government of Fiji during 1983-85. His services were uniquely acclaimed for his using action consulting method, wherein he intensely involved the local population in application of his expertise in execution of Projects, Productivity & Quality Management Techniques that resulted in recorded million dollars plus savings.

Corporate career wise he rose in BHEL to the position of Member on the Board of Directors in 1987 frm where he resigned in 1992 and joined the Strategic Thinking Group as Managing Director (Elect). With its Head Quarter in Hong Kong, the Group extended its Consultancy work to Americas, Europe, Asia, Middle East and south East Asia.

Amongst many other appointments concurrently held by him, while working for BHEL he served Indian Electrical & Electronics Association as its President during 1990-91. He has also added to his credit enriching the processes of Education, Training & Management Development on the one hand and Research & Consultancy on the other. During early eighties while holding the position of Executive Director BHEL Haridwar plant, Mr. Saran enabled establishment of the Pollution Control & Research Institute. His involvement at the same time in improving Productivity & Quality standards and launching of PRODUCTIVITY MOVEMENT enabled BHEL to win Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s commissioned National Productivity Award 1993 for BHEL. Recognizing his talent and interest, Mr. Saran has been involved in developing the Management Development Institute of BHEL in New Delhi. He has been a regular speaker on Management topics at the National Productivity Council of India, the Administrative Staff College of India, the Delhi University and the like in India and also a well known visiting Faculty & Guest speaker to Universities and Training set-ups in other countries like Japan, Thailand, Nepal and Singapore. He has to his credit publishing of more than 20 papers on Management topics.

Latter his interest to set a world Class Management Education and Consultancy set up – EMPI Group, in India took him on visits to Institutions like the Harvard Business School, the MIT in USA, the Manchester Business School, UK and the International University of Japan on Study Missions during 1992-94 prior to his establishing the EMPI B- School Group of Institutions at New Delhi in 1994 of which he became the founder Honorary President. Spending most of his time in Think Tanking along with the legendary Corporate leaders including Mr. Ajit Hakasr, Chairman Emeritus ITC Ltd., Dr. Udai Pareek (acknowledged as the father of Human Resource Education in India), Dr. S P Verma, Director Indian Institute of Public Administration and India’s achievers in other fields, EMPI has over the years carried out national Policy drafting work for Manufacturing Industry which won the appreciation of the Indian Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Bajpai in 2003. EMPI has also been the initiator of MISSION INNOVATIVE INDIA launched in 2005 through the gracious blessings of the then President of India DR. APJ Abdul Kalam. The mission has till date enrolled more than 1600 innovating organizations that are impacting India’s development effort.

 


S. P. Verma

Professor S P Verma has been formerly a Professor in the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), Government of India. His other major academic assignment has been the important role he played in setting up the Department of Public Administration of India's first Open University the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Apart frm his academic assignments, Professor Verma has been on a number of important government Commissions, the last being the Railways Reforms Commission. He has represented India in the EROPA General Assembly in Manila in 1987. He continues to be a member, Governing Board of the IIPA and was on the Editorial Board of the Indian Journal of Public Administration. Professor Verma has also been Chairman of the Northern Region Selection Commission for National Talent Scholarship.

 


Ashok Jain

Dr. Ashok Jain is the President, Mombusho Scholars Association of India, a non-profit registered society for promoting academic contacts between India and Japan. He is also the Member, Governing Bodies of Daulat Ram College and Shivaji College, University of Delhi. He has been the Director, National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies (NISTADS), guidance, coordination and multidisciplinary research in the area of science, technology and development. He completed his Ph.D. in Physics frm the University of Delhi in 1966 and M.Sc. (Physics) frm University of Lucknow in 1959. He completed his Diploma in Nuclear Science frm Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics in 1960. He has to his credit over 100 research publications in the areas of Science and Society and in Physics. He is currently serving as the Vice President (Academic Development & Research), EMPI Business School.

 


Pankaj

Mr. Pankaj is an Institution Builder, Management Professional & Consultant, Policy Analyst and a Cognitive & Applied Behavioral Scientist. He has over his professional career worked in International consulting practice with specific focus on Action Consulting intervention for organisational change in large and small Corporate and non-Corporate Organisations. His most recent activity has been teaming up with Industrial legends to create and nurture one of the leading Business Schools in India named EMPI as a world class Institution. Here he specifically oversees Strategic Initiatives as the Vice- President. He was also the Head of Research for the European Union funded EU-India International Management Centre and has been the Principal Co-investigator of GLOBE India, the India Chapter of Wharton School's Global Leadership Foundation.
